Double click on the map for greater resolution.

Madison County is a place of natural beauty, and if people choose to build where terrain will allows it, it will stay that way. In this map, slopes too steep for building are shown in magenta, the 100 year flood plain is shown in yellow, and land suitable for building is grey. Double click on the map to see it in greater resolution.

Western NC Map

Africa Map

I haven't checked in for a while - I've been too engrossed with my WNC map. This class we spent some time (after the hellaciously difficult test) learning how to classify map objects with different symbols, color ramps, classes, and divisions. These skills will be most beneficial in creating useful maps.

Cell Phone Towers in NC

Yep, we're getting covered up with cell phone towers.
I hope that we are at the point of full saturation, and
I don't have to suffer a day when the landscape is
punctuated by towers on every ridge.
After a couple of classes of bungling, I think I am becoming proficient enough with ArcGIS to follow along. The use of the software at work has helped to keep the information fresh and relevent, and I have also been able to practice some operations that I have not learned yet, like selecting features by attribute. I'm looking forward to playing with the Buncombe Co. layers that took hours to download last class.
